You can tell it’s eBay coz the site doesn’t work! Registration for eBay Live opens and I get all excited, lets book now before tickets sell out. So I’m sitting at my laptop and that’s where the problems start.
Firstly (in the normal Cobbesque manner) eBay Live is decidedly US-centric. I want to select the option to have my tickets mailed to me ahead of the event. Well they have a lovely drop down and yes (Hurrah) the United Kingdom is an option. Great – until you try to continue and the website tells you you can’t because you haven’t selected a state! Well eBay I have news for you – we don’t have US states in the UK, we have counties and insisting that the UK fits neatly into one of the US states is pretty annoying. Oh well, resigning myself to not receiving tickets by snail mail I deselect that option and continue….
Enter the details for two delegates and go to pay with PayPal… arrrghhhhhh! It tells me the email address selected isn’t recognised by PayPal, start again…. re-enter all my details and change the email address to my PayPal registered email address (shame that don’t specify this at the start). Uh oh, still not recognised! For an eBay company not to be able to integrate PayPal and make it work is pretty abhominable. I’m stunned and not in a good way.
So scrap the thought of paying with eBay owned PayPal (how embarrassing is that?) and drag out my credit card. Yes, payment goes through. Ping! Ping! The sound of two emails popping into my mail box. I have my confirmation (twice), but guess what? BOTH in my names. And of course the other delegate I booked for has a barren email inbox with no booking confirmation.
Needless to say I’m hoping that the event is slightly better organised than the booking procedure, far from looking forward to eBay Live I’m now annoyed with their crass US centricness, PayPal brokedness and inability to make any website work. Well I guess I’ll file this under our SNAFU tag… maybe they’ll have everything fixed by the time I get to Boston
(In all seriousness though if you can navigate your way through the booking process we look forward to seeing you in Boston. 🙂 )

Hopefully see you there xx
