Whois stealing your domain names?

No primary category set

Just a quick heads up for anyone who buys domain names: be careful where you’re checking availability. Mike the internet guy, and it turns out lots of other people, have had domain names they wanted hijacked after running checks on them.

So be picky about where you’re typing that treasured trademark idea. Personally I like 123Reg.co.uk, who have never yet let one of my brilliant ideas get nicked. It should also be said that if you have a great idea for a domain name, don’t hang about: with names now costing just a few pounds a year, you have no reason to run the risk of someone else getting in first.

  1. Wow! I so had this happen, it was only to get the .com for my cats blog, but as soon as I searched it (123-reg.co.uk) and set up her blog on the .co.uk, a DAY later the .com was gone. Cyber squatted….

  2. Red makes a good point: buying up the correlating .com to a newly-registered .co.uk is an easy technique for cybersquatters, so ALWAYS buy both at the same time! The point is valid the other way around too: there are a couple of my close competitors who have bought the .com but not the .co.uk, and frankly it is *killing* me not to buy the .co.uks away from them ]:)
