eBay have just announced half-price insertion fees all this weekend for sellers in the Home & Garden and Clothing, Shoes & Accessories categories on eBay UK.
Considering that this Sunday marks the end of the ten-day period since the last cheap listing day, it’s surprising to have something else so soon, even if it is limited in terms of both discount and category eligibility. Are listings in these two traditionally popular categories so down that they need their own special encouragement? I think it’s more likely that this is being aimed at new sellers: after all, household items and clothing are things that most of us have to sell off. So if you’re not heading off to eBay University this weekend, you have no excuse for not clearing out those cupboards!

I think as time goes by there are likely to be more of these category specific CLDs. It wasn’t that long ago that CD and DVD sellers benefitted from a similar promo.
I think you’re right, Steve. eBay are getting more and more specific about the seller behaviour they’re trying to drive with CLDs. And any sellers who are still basing their eBay business models on SIF + CLD need desperately to rethink what they’re doing.
