One-day postal strike announced

No primary category set

The CWU have announced a one-day postal strike for Friday 29th June. CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said “We have also agreed further strike action within two weeks from 29 June that is designed to maximise the impact on Royal Mail but at minimum cost to the CWU members.” The strike will involve Post Office workers as well as RM delivery staff.

Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier said he was “disappointed”, but “ready to continue talking with the union about the need to modernise”.

  1. It equals misery for small businesses and consumers, not just eBayers, all over Britain.

They want “maximise the impact on Royal Mail but at minimum cost to the CWU members.” And presumably maximise their impact on theior customers. Thanks, thanks so much,

  2. “We have failed to change and modernise – our costs and our prices are higher than rivals are charging in the intensely competitive business mail market, which makes up 90% of all postings,”

Striking is really going to make businesses think the Royal Mail is a great company to do business with. Every day that they strike more and more companies will look at alternatives and they’ll be in a worse position.

In the last 18 months I’ve moved 50% of my business from Royal Mail to a courier…. time to look at ways to move the remaining 50% I guess 🙁

  3. I have already opened an account with TNT – my local Royal Mail office is brilliant and I will be sorry to desert them but this will be a disaster for RM – and maybe for mail order businesses who are unprepared
Collectable music which I sell is better served by Royal Mail than a courier but what choice have I got
