Grenades in post don't go down a bomb

An eBay seller has been criticised by police after sending two hand grenades through the post. The unnamed seller, apparently a war memorabilia collector, wrapped the grenades in jiffy bags. Staff at Royal Mail’s processing centre in Cultins Road, spotted the contents during a security scan, and called in Army bomb disposal experts. Fortunately neither device contained explosive: eBay’s firearms policy prohibits the sale of grenades generally, but allows curio items which have been altered to prevent ready use as a grenade.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “In the current climate people should be mindful of what they are sending through the post and exercise some common sense.”
