Windows Update caused Skype crash

No primary category set

Last week’s Skype crash was apparently caused by a Windows Update. After the automatic update, a massive restart of users’ computers happened in a very short space of time, causing an unprecedented number of login requests, which in turn “prompted a chain reaction that had a critical impact” on the entire Skype system. Skype are taking pains to emphasise that this was not the result of any malicious activity, and that at no time was users’ security at risk.

As some have connected a drop in eBay’s share price with the Skype outage, those of us forced to actually pay for telephone calls over the last few days might allow ourselves a wry smile that at least it hasn’t cost *us* a $billion.

Let’s see the great eBay PR machine work through this one. BTW, its all Microsoft’s fault.
