At last the long awaited Skype buttons are available in all categories on all listings! As promised at the end of October, Skype is now available site wide.
Personally the timing couldn’t have been better. Having just got my 3 Skypephone I’m now no longer tied to my computer but can access Skype from anywhere in the country that I can get a mobile phone signal. So far I’ve been Skyped on my 3 Skypephone in the post office, at home, in a carpark, at work (whilst waiting for my computer to boot, and that was one Skype chat I really wouldn’t have wanted to miss!), at my neighbours house and even on the A34 whilst driving home.
I’ve yet to lose the excitement of being constantly online, and no doubt if customers start contacting me at irregular hours or inconvenient times I’ll have to make my profile unavailable or busy. I’m already wishing that I could hide on Skype with a not available or offline profile but allow just a couple of contacts still to see me. That really is something Skype need to address.
Overall though Skype is a great tool, it’s free and with my 3 Skypephone it’s available almost anywhere.

I must agree with North on this one.
One of the real benefit of Ebay is that it keeps customers at a distance sometimes.
But there is also the case for those that prefer instant communication, to have that option 🙂
Interesting how different people can view exactly the same thing…

My mum used to say the same about mobile phones. She said if someone wanted to get hold of her they could wait until she was sat in her armchair at home and if she felt like it she’d walk to the hall when the phone rang.
Once she’d tried a mobile she carries it with her everywhere these days… strange how these new fangled technologies catch on eventually 😉
The good thing with Skype is it’s always with you when you’re available, and if you log out it’s not 😀
Dont Worry mark agreeing with me is not an unknown, ailment
cures are available
lol
Just wondering, how will eBay deal with off site deals beign done thru Skype?
Hi Mario, it’s a concern for them I’m sure, but to be perfectly honest it’s not different to someone asking the seller a question and then arranging an off site sale.
Quite frankly I’m in two minds as to whether they deserve to lose eBay sales with the amount off adverts on eBay pages these days! However being serious most people are more than willing to trade on the site, buyers on eBay like eBay and sellers that try to divert sales are likely to arourse concerns in the buyers minds. No seller protection if something goes wrong and surprisingly no feedback! Buyers like feedback 🙂
as a seller I prefer to sell via ebay, its cleaner and less complicated,
I’m with North on this one too, although I can see how handy it is if you like phone communication.
I don’t like mobile phones either, or even normal phones, come to think of it 😛
It’s all horses for courses.. I prefer emails, I then have a permanent record of what was said, as I am getting to that age where I forget what I have said the moment it is out of my mouth… 🙁
Chris does the skype work through the 3 network or only when on WiFi ? I cant see how 3 make anything if its via 3 ? BUT possibly as 3 are struggling they are hoping to get any none skype calls the user makes (as many will not carry two mobiles with them)
The Skype runs though the 3 network. 😀 It doesn’t use WiFi at all so is available anywhere you can get a signal on your Skypephone mobile handset 🙂
eBay are so behind the times…. I just saw an advert for Skype on the site and a week after Skype buttons roll out site wide the Skype help page it links to still says it’s only available in certain categories!
Well it’s not… it’s on ALL my listings 😀
