In what will be very welcome news for thousands of charity sellers, from 15th November all basic insertion fees and final value fees will be refunded direct to the seller for items sold through eBay for Charity.
The reason this is so important is that in the past if a seller wanted to donate 100% of the sale price to a charity they’d still have to pay eBay fees. eBay donated the fees paid to the chosen charity but this meant sellers were charged for donating to charity. From now on they’ll receive a full refund of the fees and they really can donate an item to their favourite charity without paying for the privilege of doing so.
If a seller chooses to donate a proportion of the price they’re receive a pro rata refund, e.g. if you donate 50% of the sale price to charity you’ll receive a 50% discount of the listing fees and final values fees. The one proviso is that the insertion fees will only be refunded if the item sells and you’ll still be charged for any listing enhancements you choose.
If you’ve not sold through eBay for Charity before it’s well worth experimenting with. Not only will your chosen charity benefit but charity listings can drive traffic to your other auctions. Plus from now on, apart from the item you donate, it’s not going to cost you anything either 🙂
