Fire in Lewis' sorting office

No primary category set

If you’re sending mail to or from the Western Isles, you may be in for some delays: the sorting office in Stornoway has been badly damaged by fire. The blaze, which began at 10am today, may have been caused by an electrical fault in the roof. Fifteen staff were evacuated from the building, and Royal Mail say they are assessing what damage may have been done to the post.

The Midlothian Advertiser reports that some mail has been damaged but that it is too early to say what impact the fire would have on deliveries.
