Don't sell stolen goods on eBay

No primary category set

Well I should really change the title of this post to “Don’t steal” but if you’re a criminal that probably won’t deter you. One daft thief got caught out however when the person they stole from ended up buying back their own goods on eBay.

Jerry Montgomery was given a free pair of boots as a “wear and test” trial, and they were shipped to him but arrived while he was away. On his return unable to locate them he went shopping on eBay and managed to buy an identical pair. It was only when the company contacted him to see how he was enjoying his free pair the story started to unravel.

The boots had serial numbers and the pair he bought on eBay had the same serial number as the pair the company had sent him as a freebie. Some tealeaf had lifted the UPS parcel from his doorstep and sold the stolen boots on eBay. Just their bad luck the original recipient was the winner of the auction and the boots are now in custody of the Police as evidence.

Jerry has his boots though… he’s been provided with another pair by the company, Globe Manufacturing. Let’s hope he’s home to sign for them this time.
