Buyers unable to leave more than 3 DSR stars?

No primary category set

Auctionbytes has an extremely worrying story this morning picked up from eBay.com boards, where buyers are reporting they are unable to leave more than 3 stars in feedback. Quoting from just one post, it seems things are pretty thoroughly broken:

Myself, I am getting NO stars, only the questions and a box where the stars should be ,saying about the sellers not knowing who dinged the stars. I tried to move the box so I could leave a seller 5 stars and I could leave none at all.
Some are getting screens where 4 and 5 are covered and it is real difficult to leave a 4 or 5. Somesay their screens are ok. But, there is SOMETHING going on with the stars, and it is bad. Think how many buyers will leave no score, or maybe hit a 1,2, or 3, since they cannot get to the 4 or 5.

We know from previous occasions that when buyers weren’t able to leave positive feedback, only neutrals and negs, they left neutrals for perfectly satisfactory experiences: after all, buyers get lectured on the importance of feedback all the time, so they’re going to do the best they can.

But with DSR stars of just 4 (labelled “satisfactory” under eBay’s system) getting your buyers publically warned that your performance is unsatisfactory, this is a glitch that needs fixing immediately. And the star system needs to be made unavailable until it is.

I’m not so far finding any UK or non-.com users reporting the same glitch, but if you have buyer feedback to leave and can see this problem, we’d love a screenshot. If you can grab one, please mail me.

  1. Thankfully (according to eBay) this has now been resolved. Very worring with the 30 day DSR assessment for advantage/disadvantage in search and qualification for discounts that you could suddenly get a whole load of 3s though. That’s worse than simply not getting ranked at all! 😯

  2. It being resolved *now* is irrelevent if any DSRs left while the glitch was in place are allowed to stand, and to affect sellers’ positioning in search and their FVF discounts.

  3. I can’t see many buyers rushing to report this fault if it crops up again (AND we only have ebay’s word that this has been fixed). After all, the buyers will probably have had all they wanted from the transaction (goods AND feedback), so where is the incentive for them to report it? Who do they report it to and how? Based on my experience as a seller, contacting support often leads to disapointment, frustration and above all, bu99er all being done or achieved. I can’t see a buyer putting themselves out for a seller to report or even inform the seller of the glitch.
Once again we are at the mercy of a flawed system.

ebay has created a venue that is shortly to become a constant uphill fight to stay on top. Add to that the fact that until this dsr console is revealed, we are blindfolded. It’s a crying shame as ebay used to be such a great place to trade. I think it’s time for me to call it a day, I don’t need the hassle any more.

  4. I can see all the buyers flooding to the announcements page to check it out, can’t you? NOT…

I do hope that announcement is being flashed up on the screen before any buyer is able to leave feedback so that they know what is happening, but I’m not about to hold my breath… 😕

  5. Louise, I feel your pain, but for so long as your listings sell through ok, and nobody seems to be screaming at you to do anything vastly different, why not just stay around and do what you have been happy doing up to now?

There isn’t any hassle at the moment, it’s all in our minds….

The time to ditch the ship is when you can see the sea coming over the edge, not when the shipping forecast says that there is a storm on the horizon. Who knows – it might just miss us entirely!

  6. Thanks Joso, I hear what you are saying. I always tend to look on the dark side of issues. I hope it does miss us entirely, but only time will tell. 😮

  7. Well here’s some good news for any seller that had less than glowing feedback due to the system error….

Feedback issues over the weekend may have impacted how and whether some buyers left Detailed Seller Ratings. To ensure that sellers are not negatively affected by this site issue, eBay will be automatically updating any Detailed Seller Ratings left during the period of the issue to the highest score of 5.

Won’t do anyone’s feedback any harm at all, straight fives for a couple of days all round then 🙂

  8. Good news……… apart from of course the obvious, there’s no way to prove it’s been done. Call me cynical 😆
