eBay UK have announced today that they are to , following the change made in the US earlier this month. Sellers will be able to see the IDs of those bidding on their auctions, and the winning bidder will show once the auction is ended, but all other IDs will be hidden.
eBay say that their previous moves to protect buyers on higher priced auctions from fake second chance offers have been very successful. Extending the ‘Safeguarding Members’ IDs’ program should see the volume of fake SCOs drop even further. I’m sure that won’t pacify those who believe that safeguarding members’ IDs is a licence to shill, but eBay are firm that this is the right thing to do: “this is a necessary measure to protect all our members from email scams and fraud”.

not that I agree with shill bidding and think its couter productive
but
the snitches and keyboard vigilantes will need to find other sport rather than bothering ebay and honest sellers with their misplaced perceptions,
ebay can still see all the relevant info , they can police their own site rather than relying on vigilantes
hi…
keep ’em coming, it’s good & timely to see fresh efforts to improve buyer experience that go beyond the ‘sort out the sellers’ boundaries.
however….
” I’m sure that won’t pacify those who believe that safeguarding members’ IDs is a licence to shill ”
