Firefox 3.0 released

Download Day

Firefox 3.0 has been officially released by Mozilla and is available for download today. Mike Shaver, Director of Ecosystem Development at Mozilla was at eBay DevCon today and in his keynote speech announced that the download had become available just 3 hours previously.

Mike explained how Mozilla are passionate about Firefox as a web standards based product. He explained how when IE6 was released there was no real competition and developers produced software which worked with Microsoft technology exclusively. With Firefox now having 20% of the browser share developers can once again write code for web standards.

You can download Firefox 3.0 today, on what’s been designated as “Download Day” and be part of a world record attempt. Firefox are hoping to set a Guiness world record for the most downloads of a program in 24 hours. At the time of writing they’ve had over 2.6million downloads already.

The one complaint I have so far is Firefox 3.0 is incompatible with most of my add-ons including the Skype extension for Firefox, hopefully the developers will catch up soon.

  1. Downloaded the beta version a couple of weeks ago, I love it 🙂

Last night they added the google tool bar as a add on Chris which is great for me, I guess the rest will follow.

Just wondering if my version is the same as the one they are offering for download today?

  2. Am enjoying the speed and lack of page hanging while using ebay smp. I don’t like the fact I have to resize the text when printing invoices. The postman would need a microscope to read it on my ebay invoice/packing slips!

  3. printing ebay smp invoices or should, I say the lack of,
is the main reason I dont use firefox at all

  4. North, I I print my invoices in SMP with firefox with no problems, what problems do you experience.

Worried it will suddenly stop working now 🙂

  5. I work on Mac and downloaded the beta version of Firefox a week or so ago and the upgrades. So much faster BUT it keeps crashing when I print off invoices and labels from SMP. No problem with the layout etc., just the crashing of the browser, which is infuriating.

  6. Since relisting a few items on FF3 I get all sorts of nonsense happening on screen, not being able to preview is one error, html only when relisting from smp….going back to the old firefox.

  7. Have only ever used IE, never FF.
I have not been able to preview listings in SMP for 2-3 weeks now.

Sell similar does not work as it used to. The similar item is carried forward from the listing that you originally started the session with, not the item just listed. More extra clicks needed!

I use the ‘Be sure to add me to your favorites list!’ link added to the item description. Just discovered that clicking the link yields an error message.
Checked a sample of my 1800+ listings and have not found a single one that works.

    Joy!

  8. Thats interesting John. IE7 works fine for listing for me, its just the new FF3, havent listed for ages so only came across it today.

Don’t know much about it but maybe its a Java issue with your computer, is it fully up to date?

  9. Hi Whirly
Thanks for that, but no, my Java is v6.6 so is up to date.
    Think its an eBay issue.
Can ‘manage’ it all but the broken link is a total pain.
I have 1800 live listings and another 1100 pending relist.

Time that I used a template methinks!

  10. Sadly John technical expertise is not on my C.V, check the forum lol

BTW the link from your name(not working)just don’t ask me how to fix it 🙂

  11. I love Firefox, including version 3. But here is a huge issue – it disables Skype, and as far as I am concerned, Skype is ESSENTIAL.
Can anyone tell me when this is going to be fixed? If it isn’t fixed soon then Firefox 3 is no use to me.

  12. Hey John, firstly if it’s the Skype Add On for Firefox check for an update.

If it’s the full Skype program check if you’re on the latest version. If it’s any help I’m now running Skype 4.0 beta version which seems pretty stable and I run Firefox 3.0 (but be prepared for a shock, it’s a little different to say the least! 😯 )
