Microsoft has pushed the final major update for Windows XP to its update service today. XP SP3 is now available and will download if you have Automatic Updates enabled on Windows. This will be the last major update for XP since Microsoft officially ceased sales at the end of June.
If you’re thinking of purchasing a new PC you don’t have to use Vista which has been notoriously unreliable with TurboLister. It’s still possible to purchase a Windows Vista PC with downgrade rights enabling the PC builder to supply it with XP pre-loaded.
If you’ve not already installed XP SP3 to date it’s roughly a 67mg download and will take at least 15 minutes to install (longer on slower PCs) so set aside some time to upgrade when you don’t need to be using your computer.

I miss my old XP proffesional, it was much better than vista, I use now.
Still got the discs, so who knows!!.
You know there’s a problem when entire IT departments run screaming when Vista is mentioned 🙂 Personally, I tried it on a secondary PC that came loaded with it. The thing blue screens at least once a week and runs very slowly, even with very few applications open. Microsoft needs to start fresh and get rid of the bloat if they expect people to “upgrade.”
here is an excellent guide to the advantage of upgrading your Vista machine to XP.

PMSL – love the phrase “upgrading your Vista machine to XP” 😀
I bought a brand new built-to-my-specifications PC in May and insisted on having XP on it. I’ve heard way too much about how poor Vista is to risk that.
windows seven comes out in 2009, Msoft only gives vista another 18 months themselves, so dont rush to upgrade.
vista is loathesome, desktop still on xp and laptop on ubuntu, still had to pay for vista when purchased the lappie though, talk about captive audience 🙁
no wonder msoft do so well, you have no choice when buying a laptop ,at least desktops you can build with no os installed.
I reckon Vista will be looked back on in a similar light to WindowsNT. A few dared, nothing worked with it and those with more sense went straight from Win95 to Win2k with nothing in the middle.
bring back MS-Dos
I upgraded mine back to XP. Vista is HORRIBLE.
my mates laptop used to go upto 85% cpu usage as he moved the mouse to an application to click on it, no wonder in chugged when the app opened.
i put four gig of ram im my lappies to give it a dogs chance, ubuntu flies though 😉
oh………I must be the only person in the world who likes it, lol 🙄
So far haven’t had any problems since I had the PC last march, but probably now I have said that the whole thing will blow up.
Find office vista sooooo much easier to use to.
I will shut up now and go sit in a corner! 😳
stu
I though Vista was a curry in a box 😉 mmmm Vista Curry
