Deal of the week on eBay UK

No primary category set

There’s a new deal of the week advertised on eBay’s home page, and it’s a cracker – A

dealoftheweek

Deals like this are aimed fairly and squarely at getting buyers to eBay. Not only will existing eBay buyers return if they see deals like this, but those that buy it will doubtless spread the word and tell others where their great deal came from.

The current promotion is from Ebuyer, one of the largest Internet retailers of computer technology and consumer electronic products in the UK, but eBay are open to offers if you would like to run a similar Deal of the Week

To be considered for the Deal of the Week you’ll need sufficient inventory (1000+) of a great mass-market, spontaneous, impulse purchase product that’s going to excite buyers and it needs to be offered at an attractive price point. You’ll also need to be able to fulfill the orders on top of your normal business (eBuyer have already received hundreds of orders since the products went live about four hours ago).

Although other sellers of similar products might begrudge Ebuyer’s exposure on the home page I really like this promotion. The more often buyers see a great bargain at an exceptional price, the more often they’ll return to buy again. Even if the product isn’t for them, by seeing it, they’ll be in the frame of mind for looking for more great deals on eBay.

  1. Funny that if you logon to the eBuyer forums and put the word ‘eBay’ into any of your comments, they always blank them out with stars as if eBay doesn’t exist in eBuyers eyes !

  2. lets hope their customer service is up to the deal
or it could do more harm than good to ebay

  3. Not at all Northy – its 2 Xmas pressies crossed off the list for very little money. Personally I wouldn’t give one house room (mainly because I have stock/samples left from when I sold silver photo frames 😀 )

Its bad enough when the house gets invaded by the grandchildren, the last thing I want is to see is LCD images of them every time I walk into the lounge 😯

  4. Argh tell me about it ,my daughters just produced another bugger
    pictures all over the house
its like a flicker show from bump ,to birth, to cot, to high chair

  5. Should bump up there feedback a bit (if they have the logistics sorted). A good entry strategy for Ebuyer?

  6. Er…what on earth is a digital photo frame? I’ve seen them advertised before but I really don’t have a clue what they are supposed to do or how they work!

  7. #9 It’s a picture frame with a flat monitor screen – you put your camera memory card into it and it displays your pictures. Get bored of the family snap? Go take a few more and have a new picture 🙂

  8. Oh good grief, I can probably live without that! (I can manage quite well without a mobile phone too!) Thanks Chris for explaining.

  9. I bought my Dad one only to find out today when he rang me that he bought a picture frame on eBay and it was great value 😆

I find the Deal of the Week inspiring, I will certainly be keeping my eye out for that special item in the future, the number they have sold is unbelievable.

  10. #16 I wouldn’t want that headache, just the thought of all those orders and all the paperwork generated brings me out in a cold sweat, I think I will give deal of the week a miss for now.

I wonder if Ebuyer were surprised at the numbers sold? have you had any comment from them?

If it all goes smoothly it could bring on board alot of new buyers to eBay.

  11. I don’t think they’d be surprised, I think with a great deal like that just before Christmas it’d be a surprise if they *hadn’t* sold. I’ve seen stuff on the home page before and it’s dynamite, that’s why Home Page Featured was such a great listing enhancement (apart from the fact it was well and truely abused!).

The whole point is to bring on board new buyers – It’s going to be interesting to see what the next few deals are and if there are any readers out there with the stock/price/warehousing to handle that many orders in a short space of time I’d definitely encourage them to contact eBay about supplying the next DOTW

  12. #19 😆 no bleeding chance!

#18 Maybe they will get more buyers, maybe they will loose more? not seen the packaging yet but I would guess there is a big fat advert for ebuyer.com with every picture frame sold.

  13. think I might then
I can just see it Up in lights

    stop those dribbles and drips
Bung up yer holes and cracks for christmas

  14. Well, they have just been delivered ! (Bought Friday am – now here in my office!)

For £20/each they are actually pretty good !

  15. Yep, mine turned up earlier, bought Friday.

For the money I am pretty pleased, cost wise I reckon they knock them out in Hangzou for about a £1.50, but someone has to bring them to market, fair play to Ebuyer.

  16. Mine turned up today too – excellent service, really can’t fault it in the slightest!

Would buy again from em and I’m looking forward to the next “Deal of the Week” and I hope it’s as good as this one 😀

  17. For anyone that missed out they’ve just relisted another 700 screens in black. If you want them buy fast as they’ve been listed for less than half an hour and 20 have sold already.

My personal recommendation – bloody fantastic value, fantastic service and great Christmas present! 😀

(I’m just about to buy a couple more – limit of one per ID by the looks of things 😉 )

  18. Overall we are very happy with the way things have gone on this Deal of the Week feature. We’ve sold plenty Digital Photo Frames and hopefully provided great Christmas presents for lots of people.

We feel the offer was timed very well – a £19.99 Digital Photo Frame with Free Delivery the week before Christmas, I don’t think you could pick anything better.

We are amazed at the amount of attention being on the Ebay homepage brings, even for a huge company like ours. We’ve managed to take over 10,000 Digital Photo Frame orders and without our state of the art logistical systems, expert IT staff and fantastic customer service team, this definitely wouldn’t have been possible.

We are glad to be a part of this new feature and hope to work with Ebay on this again.

  19. I was wrong, it wasn’t hangzhou it was Guangdong.

Got some interesting numbers for you, been speaking to one of the owners of the factory.

I can have that 7″ screen on my shelves for £6.26 based on current exchange rates, shipping costs, transaction charges & tax. Thats based on a 10,000 piece order.

I imagine Ebuyer have a bit more clout than me and may have purchased earlier in the year at a better price with a better exchange rate also, but you never know.

So, £19.99 with Free P & P seems pretty good on the face of it. There will be a few quid left per item after taxes, shipping, packaging etc.

DOTW still has me intrigued but Joe Bloggs would need somebody to fullfill that order, no way in the world a one man band could survive the onlslaught.

One thing I forgot, my package from Ebuyer was missing something, not one bit of promotional material promoting Ebuyer.com, must have been part of the deal, assuming I am not alone thats a nice bit of work on eBays part.

  20. what about this save the planet and global warming malarky

10.000 components sourced ,manufactured, and delivered, assembled and packaged ,shipped half way round the globe then packaged and shipped again
then plugged in and using power day and night just to show someones ugly mush

but Because I own a Merc SUV I am destroying the planet

  21. Malarky is the best word to describe global warming, load of old pony the lot of it.

Apparently (I am sure someone will tell me I am wrong 😆 ) the world is actually cooling down not warming up.

  22. Actually cows are destroying the planet.

the produce @20% of greenhouse gasses

    steak for dinner tonight then!!!

  23. My frame didn’t arrive 🙁 City Link say that they have attempted delivery twice, which in my opinion is baloney. I have now told them not to bother.

eBuyer have kept me well enough informed (still not happy though).
