Moving into my new office and warehouse

It’s a new week and for me it’s a new office and warehouse. The offices were only finished on Wednesday last week and after a long weekend of moving desk (the easy bit) and stock (an absolute nightmare) I’m moved in.

I’m not working alone any more though, John Pemberton of is sharing the office space and splitting the costs. I’ve known John for a couple of years ever since we met as fellow eBayers in the local Post Office, and with his first baby on the way his wife gave him his marching orders to find an office anywhere but what will become the baby’s bedroom. John’s warehouse is in Ellesmere Port so this will be his administration office.

Having seen my old unit and decided the location was perfect we decided to get a new one built. Half office half warehouse the one and only glitch in moving in was BT who managed to turn up at the right time, on the right day, but at entirely the wrong location to hook up the phone and broadband. They eventually managed to turn up this morning and hooked the line up so I was able to move my computer across to the new location.

stockGoing forward there’s a bit more space for stock (Rapid Racking is superb and one of the best investments I ever made). I’ve got a five by five foot square packing table (an absolute luxury which I’ve never had before!) and probably most important come next winter the entire building is heavily insulated – anyone who’s visited will attest to the fact that the last warehouse was impossible to heat and in winter it was often warmer outside than in.

Now, apart from finding which shelf all my stock is now located I’m all set – the courier has already collected for the first time from the new premises. It’s quite exciting, a fresh beginning after four years in the old warehouse. As John said, it reminds him of what it was like starting out selling on eBay and setting up office for the first time.

  1. Here’s to years of profitable trading in your new premises for both you and John!

Oh, and thanks for the printer, BTW 🙂

  2. #1 Lynne, the business expansion has been funded by increased sales on eBid, not eBay..but Mounty can’t say that in public,

    so I have 😆

  3. Congratulations on the office move Chris – and great to hear you’re sharing a space – no more loneliness of the long distance eBay seller 🙂

  4. thanks all – Chris forgot to mention I spent all Saturday moving his stuff (at no cost!!). Its a good idea if you can team up with someone reliable in your local area!

  5. Well done, I’m about to move into a new purpose-built unit, with proper racking, pallet storage, a small office and best of all, a large packaging table !!!
Hope it all goes well, we’re getting busier by the day thanks to the credit crunch.

  6. Congratulations to you both, well done 😎 . Are you getting some publicity from the local paper on your expansion?

  7. Hey Noel good luck with it – it’s a big step but one I never regretted.

DBL Nooooo, I don’t want local publicity, they might want to come buy things – I’m strictly online only 😀

  8. Having spent 2 years working from home I was obviously wary about moving into ‘proper’ business accommodation

Anyway after 6 weeks of total chaos we have finally started to pack from our new warehouse…. its wonderful not to walk to the toilet and fall over boxes of beads or having to dodge the boxes of jiffy envelopes stacked the whole length of the hallway (all 40 foot)..

Its the best thing we have ever done….. good luck and hopefully the media will find something else to talk about other than the credit crunch

  9. Good luck Chris & John 😆

Time (slowly) might be right for expansion. With the credit crunch everythings going quite…….BUT that’s the benifit ‘time’ to sort out the warehouse etc & move on up……while the others all ‘go up the wall’..
