The Guardian has reported that the CWU are to vote on National Strike action for Royal Mail workers. The vote will start next Wednesday with the result announced at the end of the month.
Sadly this if they strike it’s likely to come into effect right in the middle of the run up to Christmas, which will annoy both online sellers and consumers in equal measure, although the effect will probably impact sellers harder.
It’s been two years since the last major strike action in 2007, and the previous strikes were in 2005. There appears to be a biennial pattern emerging where the CWU flex their muscles and renege on past deals.
In the mean time industrial action continues in South West London today and tomorrow, and on Saturday Rochdale, Hadfield, much of London, the Home Counties, Essex, East Midlands, Peterborough, Coventry, Bridgend, Carlisle, Scotland and South West England will all be affected.
