eBay start to drive traffic towards Top Sellers

No primary category set

TSRITEMSPECIFICeBay have enabled the Top Seller Rating badge on qualified listings and are starting to promote Top Sellers in search. Currently not everyone will see the Top Seller icon in search results, but a purple speech bubble is highlighting a new option in the sidebar which selects items from Top Sellers only.

Great for current Top Sellers, not so great for Standard or Above Standard sellers, but once the speech bubble disappears (which appears to be as soon as you’ve clicked it) will buyers really remember to click the sidebar to select Top Sellers only? I’m guessing probably not, they’ve enough options to click to find what they’re looking for without clicking to select the quality seller they’re going to choose. In the long term the Top Seller icon and boost in search results is likely to have more effect.

One thing to keep an eye on is once you’ve selected the Top Seller option it appears to be sticky for future searches. How long this stays selected for I don’t know, but buyers could be finding it hard to find items from non-Top Sellers for the next few days.
