With all airports now shut until at least 1am tomorrow morning it’s no surprise that Royal Mail and other courier’s International deliveries will be delayed. Royal Mail are for the near EU countries – Germany, France Belgium and the Netherlands – transferring mail onto road services. What’s not as well known is that much of the UK mail is transported by airplane and there will be delays to some domestic deliveries as well.
Royal Mail say that they have contingency plans in place, but this involves using alternate road and rail transport. However this will impact a few services so they’re removing the Special Delivery guarantee for items posted on Friday and Saturday this week, although the vast majority of items will arrive on time.
Edited to add: eBay have now put up an announcement re postage delays due to the Iceland Volcano.

Hmmmm, I’m not falling for all this Volcano nonsense…and what about Google.com…something very odd is afoot!
This is very annoying.
It is difficult enough being an International Jetsetter without all this hassle.
too right its a pain in the ASH
“Alternative” road and rail tansport, not “alternate”. They mean something quite different.
The .com AB now has a ‘trading advisory’ calling out Europe in relation to the Eruption:
