Good news for Google Android moblie phone users – it looks like Google are likely to open up their Android Market and allow PayPal payments in addition to Google Checkout for the purchase apps. In addition for both the Android and on the Apple iPhone PayPal will facilitate in-app purchases for real life goods and services.
This could allow to pay for anything from pizza delivery or cinema tickets to buying clothing or household goods on your phone. The real difference is that rather than using your mobile browser to buy and make payments it will be performed by a dedicated Google Android or iPhone app.
The big news however isn’t the in-app payments, it’s that Google is going to allow for PayPal purchases on the Android Marketplace. It’s only a couple of years ago that eBay/PayPal fell out with Google when Google scheduled a Google Checkout party to coincide with eBay Live in Boston.
If Google really do allow PayPal payments on the Android Marketplace it could be seen as an admission that their own Google Checkout payment system has failed to achieve market penetration, even amongst their own Android users. For PayPal to be accepted on Google Android really would be a coup worth celebrating.
