Just in time for that new swimming costume for the summer holidays Speedo are the latest big brand name to set up shop on eBay. With eBay’s stated goal of attracting mainline retailers and brand to the site they’ve had a raft of impressive additions in the first six months of this year and Speedo are undoubtedly a quality name.
Speedo are using ChannelAdvisor for their back end management platform and already have an impressive 3300 live listings. With just 18 feedback (all positive) so far they’ve yet to qualify for Detailed Seller Ratings. They appear to be offering between 25% and 50% off the “normal price” for items listed on eBay and have a standard carriage charge of £2.95. Although not currently an Outlet it wouldn’t surprise me to see them there in a week or so.
Much as it pains me to say so I am impressed with the number of retailers and brands eBay are attracting. I’m not so keen on the thought that every sale they receive is one that another eBay seller hasn’t, and would still like to know how many of the sales from Outlet Retailers and big brand names are incremental to past site traffic and sales.
One thing is for sure though, the brands have woken up to eBay and are here to stay. eBay sellers need to recognise this and figure out ways to compete successfully whether this be with unique inventory, service or price.

I’m interested they’ve taken, ahem, the plunge.
Is it full immersion or just a toe in the water?
Has Debenhams Called it a day now?
With a shop design by Froo and Channeladvisor managing their listings, are they trying to tempt fate? 😉
Its a great market, all my swimming gear seems to shrink year on year….
I also don’t think that a major brand such as speedos should be selling their products on ebay.
That will upset all of their bricks and mortar shops.
£2.95 to post swimming trunks 1st class standard!!
Will be interesting to see their star rating on P&P in a few weeks… I reckon that current rating of 5* might just drown.
Well, if ever a post needed a photo or two in illustration, surely it was this one Chris 😉
