eBay France change free listing policy for private sellers

money for nothing

Private sellers on eBay France have some new fees to deal with. As of September last year, they were able to list auctions starting at €1 or less with no insertion fees. eBay says:

Since the introduction of the new pricing, we have noticed that some sellers took advantage of this promotion to offer for sale a large number of lower quality items, disappointing many buyers and sellers.

Accordingly, private sellers will only be allowed 100 free listings per month, which will be free regardless of start price (until 31st December 2010). From the 101st listing, they’ll have to pay the same insertion fees that business sellers do, between 15c and €1, depending on start price. Private sellers with less than 25 feedback will be limited to 100 live listings at any one time.

According to the annoucement, this change came into force on 2nd June; eBay.fr have apparently only seen fit to officially inform users two months later. Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.
