Etsy sales up 7.1% in August

No primary category set

Etsy have released their stats for August, and they make cheering reading:
* $25.5 million of goods sold, up 7.1% on July.
* That represents 1,404,248 items sold for the month, up 7.2% on July.
* 2,117,388 new items were listed in the month, up 6.5% on July.
* 278,208 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, up 6.9% on July.

The last couple of months have seen some pretty stellar figures from Etsy – though I have to admire the fact they publish them whether they’re stellar or not.

What I particularly love about Etsy is that they talk about items sold as well as items listed. Often we see Marketplace sites talking about registered sellers and items up for sale, but less about items sold: it’s hard not to conclude that’s because their sell-through rates are terrible. I love Etsy, their clever management and their amazingly talented sellers – and hope they continue to grow like this.

  1. Two things leap out for me here.

% sales have risen higher than % listed. that means conversion is up. That’s very healthy.

Also, seeing a lift in August! That’s remarkable. And the Year on year numbers are strong too.

Etsy is definitely worth watching and playing with, I think. And I also salute their openness.
