Handmade goods marketplace Etsy had its first billion page view month in January 2011, according to figures just announced by the company.
An impressive 1,062,455,691 page views were recorded on the site in January. $33.5 million worth of goods were sold on the site over the month, up 67% on January 2010, and the overall number of goods sold increased 57%. For my money, one of their most impressive statistics is that 1,843,043 items were sold over the month, only 14.4% lower than December’s 2,152,992.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Etsy. I’ve loved the way they weren’t just an “eBay wannabe” site, but found a completely unexploited niche, and built a vibrant and committed community around it. But these figures show that it’s not just a handicrafts sale any more (and hasn’t been for a while): Etsy is definitely worth a look if you make-to-sell.
Are any TameBay readers selling on there right now? Let us know your experiences in the comments.

Re Etsy: I have both sold items on eBay and Etsy – very different marketplaces, and different clientele. Whilst it might appear that Etsy is seen by Americans only, I have never sold anything to the US, but have sold to customers in Italy, Cyprus and Russia for example. You need patience though – its not fast and furious like Ebay!
