It must have been a bit nerve wracking for Warren Buffet as his annual auction for a Power Lunch with him at the Smith & Wollensky in New York City looked to flop compared to last year’s selling price of $2.3 million. With just four minutes to go the price was still at a paltry (but VERY respectable) $1.2 million. For the first time in 13 years it looked like the annual event wouldn’t be a record breaker.
The next four minutes were a whirlwind of bidding with the final record breaking bid of $3,456,789.00 being placed at 19:30 and 15 seconds – a single second before the auction closed at 19:30 and 16 seconds.
This is one annual eBay auction which appears totally recession proof. Investors queue up to place their outrageous bids just for a couple of hours to talk to Warren Buffet. Mind you he is CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, an investment company and is reknowned world wide for his successful investment strategies and is ranked the third richest person in the world. Even so the telephone numbers people are willing to bid for a lunch are staggering… and you still have to cover your own travel expenses!

Wow 3.4 million and they don’t even throw in a plane ticket. That’s craziness. I guess if you have this kind of money laying around then why not? Not many people can say they sat down with him for lunch.
