To help sellers comply with the red tape increasingly coming from the EU, eBay are introducing a few minor changes to listings. Sadly it means more work for sellers, but in this case we’ve got the Eurocrats to blame, rather than eBay.
Unit Price Display
and calculated on relevant listings. eBay give the example that you create a listing for 10.4kg of washing powder with a selling price of £27.99 which would give a unit price of £2.69/kg. The EU laws on how the price of certain goods should be displayed require this.
As a bonus, unit prices will help buyers compare the prices of items sold in different quantities more easily should they wish to go to the trouble of looking. You’ll have already seen this in supermarkets, for instance, where price tags already let you compare quantities like for like.
Manufacturer Warranty Details in Electronics
From the 25th of September, all business sellers must fill in the when listing “New” and “New other” electronics products. You should also provide details of what’s covered under the warranty in your item description.
Knowing that an item has a warranty increases buyer’s confidence and can lead to increased sales prices. However, there are many sellers on eBay who supply “New” products which are graded returns and no longer have a warranty. Other sellers may have items in stock which are technically “New” but in reality are many years old but unused and still boxed and shrink wrapped. If that’s you, make sure you note the actual warranty that the product has, and not the warranty the product would have had when it was factory fresh.
Motors Tyre Labeling
For all motor tyres manufactured on or after the 1st of July 2012, in listings.
To help sellers comply with the new EU law, eBay have added tyre fuel efficiency, wet grip performance and external rolling noise Item Specifics to the tyre category.
From November 2012 all listings for tyres, manufactured after July 1st this year, must contain the appropriate tyre performance information.
