Saturday brings 3 more British Gold Medals

No primary category set

Another Super Saturday, although not quite as super as last Saturday, but still a very respectable haul of three gold medal stamps for Britain today, bolstering our position as 3rd in the Olympic league table. Paddling, pacing and punching were the order of the day today.

Ed McKeever Men’s Canoe Sprint Kayak Single 200m

There was little doubt that Ed McKeever was going to paddle his kayak into the record books today when he set off at a blistering pace to lead the race from start to finish.

Nothing was left to chance though, training 365 days a year his coach took lessons from Britian’s cyclists and everything from paddles and even a special aerodynamic suits were used to gain small incremental advantages.

Royal Mail will paint one of their red post boxes gold in the Ed’s home town of Bradford-on-Avon and his gold medal stamp will be on sale at over 500 Post Offices across the country which will once again be opening on Sunday to celebrate the Olympic success.

Mo Farah Men’s Athletics 5,000m

Now truly an elite athlete, Mo Farah has done the double adding a 5,000m triumph to his earlier 10,000m win to score two gold medals in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Post Offices in Kingston Upon Thames and Isleworth in West London, close to where Mo used to live and train, will open this Sunday making Mo’s second gold medal stamp available for sale within 24 hours of his historic win. The branches will be open for at least 3 hours to give shoppers the chance to snap up his stamps.

Having already painted a post box gold in Isleworth to celebrate his first gold medal, Royal Mail will paint a second pillar box gold in Teddington, where Mo used to live and train.

Luke Campbell Men’s Boxing 56kg Bantam Weight

Securing Britain’s 28th gold medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games, Luke Campbell became the first Brit to win the Bantam Weight boxing for over 100 years. We’ve not had a bantam weight boxing Olympic champion since the games were first held in London in 1908.

Residents of Hull, Luke’s home city, will be able to purchase his gold medal stamps from three branches across the city. Royal Mail will also paint one of its historic red post boxes gold in Hull to celebrate Luke’s triumphant win, which for the record was a 14-11 points win over Ireland’s John Joe Nevin
