Goodbye MyWorld, Hello Profile

No primary category set

We revealed in July that MyWorld pages on eBay were to be scrapped in favour of new eBay Profiles, and you can now see what your profile will look like. Eventually eBay will automatically redirect from MyWorld to your Profile page. In the mean time you can go to https://www.ebay.com/usr/USERNAME (change USERNAME to your own eBay ID) to access your Profile page.

Although we don’t currently have a date for when your Profile will replace your MyWorld page, there’s no reason you can’t set your page up and start getting it ready for public viewing. The basic page looks pretty boring when you arrive, but there are a number of interesting developments to immediately spruce your page up and make it personal, many of which eBay have never had before.

Seller info box

The seller info is pretty much what you’d expect, About Me logo, Shop logo, Top Rated Seller logo, basic information and your personal welcome message, but this is also where the key new features are to be found.

Firstly they’ve added social media to the page, currently it’s limited to Facebook Likes and Google +1, and the only social media profile you can add is a link to your Facebook page. Doubtless this will be expanded in the future to hopefully add at least Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ profiles.

The next major change is video. You have the ability to add a YouTube video which will be displayed next to your profile picture – this is a perfect place for your company introduction video explaining who you are and what you do. Don’t forget to highlight your best selling products on eBay to encourage viewers of your profile to browse your products.

Alongside your seller information is the regular feedback detailed seller rating display with various links such as add to favorite seller and link to the items you have for sale.

Personal and Business Information

You’ll find that your business information has been pulled over from your previous eBay settings, but you’ll want to add your personal information. This is where you can really personalise your Profile and give buyers something to connect with.

Highlighted Listings

Pictures and great big pictures are key to the new eBay. The first item displayed needs a 400×400 pixel image, but you should really be aiming for all eBay images to be 1600 pixels square in the future. Roll your mouse over any image and it’ll display an overlay with the item price and title. The only disappointing feature here is that once again clicking the final “See all items” box links to the See Seller’s other items page, instead of an eBay shop.

Overall eBay Profiles are a great improvement over eBay MyWorld pages, although there are still plenty of things eBay could do to make them even better, for instance where are the Pinterest buttons which one might think it reasonable to expect these days?

  1. I do not believe it! I’ve had over 500 visits on a page I did not even know existed!

How can this be given that the page is new today?

  2. I’ve had over a 1,000 visits (I didn’t know about the page either) and I’m very puzzled as I don’t remember writing some of the info on there, looks interesting all the same!

  3. I love the look of that.
I can’t find how to edit my details on the personal info section.
The info I have there is about 8 years old 😮
