Couriers start to suspend ad hoc collections

No primary category set

Last posting days for Royal Mail are ticking away fast, but don’t forget to double check with your courier when they’ll be ceasing collections for Christmas.

We know that a number of couriers normally suspend ad hoc collections early in the run up to Christmas, and this year buyers seem to be leaving everything to the last minute.

MyHermes have already announced that their last collection is the 14th December so that they can ensure every parcel is delivered in time for the big day and no one is left disappointed that their present didn’t arrive.

Check with your own courier if you haven’t already, and bear in mind that not only will they be pushed to the limit over the next week, but it’s likely that your customers might out Christmas shopping and have to arrange a re-delivery which puts even more strain on the nations hard working delivery teams.

  1. Interesting that alternatives to Royal Mail are already struggling to deliver for Xmas and yet Royal Mail seem to be working normally.

No queues at the Post Office.

Not surprising really when Royal Mail charge more than twice what many of the alternatives charge to deliver parcels. And the alternatives include tracking.

There are drop off points springing up all over the UK so the future of post offices is looking bleak. One has recently opened up within 50 yards of our local post office.

And we have had massive 50% or more Royal Mail price hikes this year.

Somewhere along the line Royal Mail have lost the plot. Don’t know if the proposed Royal Mail changes will improve things.

  2. Most couriers cancel same day ad-hoc collections in December. This is not an uncommon occurrence. We use Parcelforce and UPS, at the moment we have had no issues with either that would suggest that they are struggling with demand.

  3. I like the way that the MyHermes site claims that deliveries may take upto 7 days “Due to unprecedented demand”.

You would think it was Christmas or something!
