We’ve just got the figures though for last weekend, and by all accounts Sunday and Monday were the biggest shopping days ever in the UK.
eBay Super Sunday
9 million Christmas shoppers visited eBay on “Super Sunday”. If you weren’t convinced before now about the popularity of mobile an amazing 3 million of those shoppers were logging on via mobile devices.
The number of mobile visitors to eBay on Super Sunday peaked at almost double the number on the same day last year (up by 96%), with festive mobile sales rocketing by 110% and traffic peaking at around 8pm.
This surge in mobile sales comes after eBay revealed that more than half of UK consumers plan to shop more on mobile this Christmas, as connected devices become virtual stores in their pockets, giving them the ability to shop anytime, anywhere.
This Sunday also marked a record-breaking Super Sunday for eBay, the nine million unique UK visitors to the site represented an 18% increase in visitors from the same day last year and driving a 15% uplift in sales across the site as a whole.
Instant access to great deals on smartphones and tablets saw 25 items per second being purchased on eBay in the UK. Home & Garden was the most popular search category, as shoppers stocked up on Christmas and party supplies, which ranked among the top selling items.
Mega Monday figures from ChannelAdvisor
Shoppers didn’t slow down on “Mega Monday”, ChannelAdvisor’s same store sales numbers show eBay UK experienced a 21.89% increase in sales, while Amazon UK saw a 14.33% increase. Comparison Shopping Engines saw a 25.53% rise with Paid Search up 7.36%.
Mega Monday has grown in popularity over the past few years as more and more consumers head online for Christmas shopping, and, with it being the first Monday after the November pay day, it has become an important day for retailers looking for their slice of the Christmas spend.
