Amazon Auto Rip past CD purchases to Cloud Player

No primary category set

Amazon have launched Auto Rip for all new CD sales on Amazon.com. They’ll also make all your previous CD purchases available through Auto Rip in your Amazon cloud storage account, to be played through Amazon Cloud Player.

Sales of CDs are declining like mad, so to suddenly give consumers all the music they’ve ever purchased available to listen to online is a really smart move. Apple have had the market sewn up with iPods and iPhones, but now here’s Amazon saying here’s all the tracks you’ve ever purchased instantly available on your PC as well as Kindle Fire, Android, iPhone or BlackBerry.

Giving users access to Amazon Cloud Player is one thing, giving you access to Amazon Cloud Player with a catalogue of all the music you’ve ever liked enough to buy is something a bit special. Plus of course everything you buy from then on in (so long as it’s from Amazon) means that you’ll get the CD in the post and you new tracks added to Amazon Cloud Player through Auto Rip straight away.

We don’t know if this is only for Amazon.com customers or if or when it’ll be available in the UK, but it’s a smart move for the New Year and could breathe some fresh interest in buying CDs instead of opting for downloads (which in most instances means you’re renting the music and don’t actually own it!)
