Amazon fee increases for Electronics Accessories

Amazon has informed sellers today that they will be increasing fees as they introduce a new Electronics Accessories category in the next few days. The notice from Amazon to sellers says: “The Electronics Accessories category will have the following referral fees on the UK, German, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon Marketplaces: 12% or 0.50 GBP/EUR minimum fee per unit, whichever is higher.”

The current % fee is 7%. The new fees will come into effect on the 5th April 2013.

Existing listings for Electronics Accessories will be moved into the new category today the 5th April. Other Electronics fees will be unaffected.

Explaining the change Amazon says: “The new store will help to improve customer experience by providing a central destination for millions of unique Electronics Accessories products, a more intuitive browse structure, and other features to help make it easier to discover related products.”

We understand that other Amazon categories will also be changing fees, and Amazon sellers are advised to log into their Amazon seller account for announcements.

  1. We have always found that we sell more on amazon than eBay, and at a higher price and we have far fewer INR disputes.

So as far as Amazon’s fees are concerned we don’t mind the increase, we’ll adjust out prices to maintain the same profit.

At least Amazon marketplace seller support actually supports sellers and usually reply to queries within 12 hours, eBay on the other hand do not do not give a toss about sellers.

  2. I think when you look at it it’s a win win situation for amazon, the company’s biggest issues is profitability, by raising fees sellers can’t compete with them or undercut them quite so easily, amazon then can raise their own sale prices making them more profitable, so not only do they bring in more fees from marketplace sellers but they also appease their shareholders with higher margins.

  3. No matter how it is dressed up when has a cost increase ever been good for marketplace users? There is only one winner when costs are increased.

The only exception ever to this rule was when ebay changed their shop structure to show shop BIN items in regular search. The fee increase then was worth the benefit. It has been downhill all the way since then though.
