I was down in Brighton with Dan yesterday for a Tamebay board meeting (pub lunch) and picked up on a gem of an eBay listing that’s apparently upset the city godfathers.
Driving out of Brighton listening to the local Radio Station – Juice 102.7, they were talking about an aff_link("https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130856633022","eBay listing for a pebble from Brighton beach","","UK"); ?> which has been listed on eBay.
Described as “Brighton Beach – Pebble (rock)”, it’s up for sale for £4.99 with free delivery. It’s attracted no interest thus far, but who knows – someone might decide to bid.
What amused me however was the reaction of the local council, who doubtless spend a fortune on the beaches to attract visitors to the town. “It’s part of our sea defenses” was the outraged message, people shouldn’t be taking our beach and selling it on eBay, it doesn’t belong to them.
The Juice 102.7 presenters did however have a solution. If you want to list a part of Brighton that doesn’t belong to you on eBay, start with some litter picking and the council won’t object.
Whatever you do don’t sell Brighton Litter on your business eBay account through, or it’ll be the Environment Agency coming down hard on you for not having a Waste Carriers License, you’re not allowed to transport your commercial waste let alone other peoples. Incidentally if you do have commercial waste it’s a lot cheaper to list it on eBay at 99p no reserve and make it someone else’s problem rather than pay for disposal yourself.
