eBay seems to be investing heavily in eBay Now, the store-to-door sameday delivery service launched last year in San Francisco. The eBay Now concept is simple. You order something online from one of the partner merchants and eBay sort the delivery that same day, even within the hour. The service is now available parts of NYC and San Jose too. Later in the year more parts of NYC will come online along with Chicago and Dallas.
Previously to access eBay Now you need to use a smartphone app but now the product has been further developed so it can be used on boring old laptops and desktops. eBay reports that much of the shopping is done by people at work, during 9 to 5 hours.
Delivery costs $5 so it’s really reasonable. But I do wonder if it is sustainable to keep the price that low. Watch this space but it would be interesting to hear if eBay Now will be coming to the UK (specifically London) any time soon.
