A new site will provide even greater efficiency for Cambridgeshire based ecommerce logistics house James and James Fulfilment who are to open second warehouse facility at Sawston
The new site will be operational from November 2013 to meet increased ecommerce sales. Continued growth this year and increasing attention of larger national brands has led to the current Foxton facility reaching capacity.
The growth of ecommerce has also lead to an explosion in the number of in ecommerce fulfilment companies and a shift in the way fulfilment is handled to meet the new demands of ecommerce. Traditionally fulfiment houses despatched pallets to retailers. Now individuals are the recipients who demand that they get their orders quickly and accurately. James and James have met the challenge of this relatively new system of commerce and taken advantage of technological advances.
“The new Sawston site provides us with the extra space to accommodate the interest we are now receiving from medium sized corporate nationals. It has also given us an opportunity to improve” James Hyde, Operations Director us.
The new 50,000 sq ft site is being completely refurbished and this has allowed James and James to design the layout to meet the specific needs of ecommerce fulfilment. James and James will be able to erect the racking and build the packing stations in locations that will maximise efficiency. This will improve booking in, storage picking, packing and despatch. James and James’ clients already benefit from fast processing times and the range of live reporting and analytics providing an edge on their competitors.
Technical Director, James Strachan, said “Setting up the site from scratch allows us to use the full power of our unique warehouse management system. We are already very fast and very efficient, which offers our clients a competitive advantage. The new site offers the opportunity to further widen our efficiency gap.”
James and James will continue to operate the Foxton facility as normal without any interruption of service. Like Foxton the new Sawston site will have multiple internet connections and a monitored alarm system. James and James will also be moving the administrative offices to the new site as it offers more space for its growing number of office based employees. James and James will also be taking on a new team of warehouse operatives and are delighted to be making a modest contribution to local employment.
