Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos thinks the future of ecommerce delivery is drones. Yup, every parcel that fits in a lunchbox, will whizz your way within the hour courtesy of an unstaffed flying machine.
No, I haven’t been at the cooking sherry. On US TV, Bezos revealed his dream. And there’s a video.
Tamebay wrote about Flirtey, an Aussie company, some months ago. We thought that might be a hoax back then but now I’m less sceptical. Amazon is clearly investing in this technology.
My concern now is about success. I’ve seen my dear postie with his trolley dropping off the parcels in my little street to my neighbours. And I have seen the couriers too. Maybe a dozen a day, and more at this time of year.
What if all this comes to pass? The dystopian future is a sky swarming with parcel sized drones buzzing for drop offs. And worse than that, I don’t have a garden. Do I need to paint a landing point on the roof?

Do you have a chimney? Just drop the packages off in there.
what is more likely in future, that is you pay for a code to print the item off on your 3 d printer
Alot of people would be then out of a job in relation to order deliver. Although more environmentally friendly.
How long before fast food, and everything else is delivered via this method. More lost jobs.
Lots of advice on how to meke drone traps on google but I reckon that the overhead wires round here would do a pretty good job.
April 1st?
While there are just one or two drones flying around it is probably not a problem. But if it gets into the thousands or hundreds of thousands or even millions they are likely to become an absolute nightmare.
Over the weekend there has been a lot in the media about the Police Helicopter that crashed onto a Pub. If there are millions of these things you can almost guarantee crashes. Either them colliding or just crashing and they could crash into Pubs, Houses, Blocks of Flats and even onto your head while you are out walking the dog.
These things are not light and when carrying a parcel(and you can guarantee that later versions will carry larger and heavier parcels) they could be a major problem.
So look out for Rules and Regulations covering these things in weeks or months if they start to appear in any great numbers.
Might look like a good idea but as you can guess I am not convinced.
..and how do you get the lunchbox back to Amazon – your OWN drone?
Mind boggling.
Off to Paddypower for a bet… Amazon will buy Dominos Pizzas and a chain of takeaway restaurants, then we can get the dinner flown straight on to our plates!!
Elf and safety will have kittens…
Er is that my Solicitor, well i like to make a claim one of those Amazon Drones has just hit me car and now i’m unable to walk properly without pain in my back and neck
Also I must take 6 weeks unpaid leave from my job because I get scared now whenever I see a bird
pmsl, bring it on amazon. The uk claim culture will have a field day
Waterstones have a better method of delivery:

New form of crime awaits…shooting down Amazon drones to steal the goodies!
How does the drone knock on the door?
.
Get their network control code = divert them, what a nice little earner….
The great commercial opportunity here, it occurs to me, is for smugglers. especially drugs.
Odd that things are normally under wraps for soooo long at Amazon yet this is still five years away and they announce it just before Christmas? PR PR PR!
Waterstones trounce Amazon drones with superb PR.
