100 new domain suffixes are now available

In response to the fact that we’re running out of meaningful web addresses, ICANN (who are in charge of such things) have released 100 new domain suffixes recently.

This is the first batch of new suffixes that will be released this year, in total 1000 new styles will be available by the end of the year. The selection is varied. From the sensible and sober .berlin and .wien for the German and Austrian capitals through to the more whimsical .guru and .ninja. And interestingly, the first suffix in Arabic has been released too.

It might be worth having a look at the list of newly released TLDs (top level domains) to see if there’s anything you want to bag for your own website.

All these domains are going to do is generate profit for the registrars (ICANN have already bagged 100K USD per gTLD and confuse the customer, many of whom can’t differentiate between a search engine and a brwoser.
