Ebid launches iPhone and Ipad app

No primary category set

News reaches us that Ebid has launched an app for use with iPad and IPhone Apple iOS based machines.

It currently being tested and is available for download in the Apple store now. Features include registration, login and buying capabilities. Some selling features are enabled but no account upgrade facilities are available yet.

It’s good to see Ebid making some efforts to promote itself with the many millions of mobile shoppers out there. eBay makes something like 40% of its transactions (maybe more) from mobile devices and that’s growing all the time.

It will be interesting to see if this development gives Ebid a lift and one assumes that an Android version will follow hot on the heels.

For my money though, one of Ebid’s key weaknesses its lack of an API. This makes plugging into 3rd party software impossible and means that any sort of truly bulk operations on the site are impossible. The development of the app might be an indication that an API is on the way.

If you’ve used the Ebid App, we’d love to hear about your experiences.

  1. Until ebid has an API it will never be any use to anybody but the small hobby seller. ebid needs the BIG sellers to draw in large numbers of punters so puzzled that after10 years or more still no API.

  2. Low ebid prices might help too! Certainly in the categories that interest me too may ebiders live in cloud cuckoo land and if this is a snap shot of the rest of the site visitors will look elsewhere. It is claimed fees are low so why are prices high?

ebid can implement as many apps and enhancements as they like but if a retail site is uncompetitive it won’t draw in buyers.

  3. In saying this ebay has also become a haven for those living in cloud cuckoo land. It is a good thing for ebay that it still has a large volume of sellers of which a small number still remain competitive else ebay would go the way of ebid.

  4. ebays attitude is if you don’t sell enough then adios amigo which I believe is a good attitude so well done ebay for clearing out those time wasters who don’t sell!

Maybe ebid should adopt the same cull approach?

Oh I forgot ebid can’t do this as ebid have promised you a lifetime contract regardless of your performance. Not good for ebid so maybe they should introduce a fee arrangement that is performance related also?

  5. I cant find the app? does anyone have and use it? if so where do you download it from? i cant find in my app store threw my iphone
