If you’ve seen the latest trailer for Downton Abbey you may have notice a “Sponsored by Amazon Kindle” logo at the end. It appears that Amazon have taken over as the show’s sponsor from Tesco. Previously Aviva and then P&O sponsored earlier series.
Series 5 of Downton Abbey is due to be broadcast from Sunday the 21st of September at 9pm on ITV. With an average audience of around 9.5 million viewers there’s no doubt that the period drama is one of the most popular shows and certainly makes a change from reality TV shows such as The X Factor which will be broadcast immediately prior to Downton Abbey each week.
Media Week estimates that the two year sponsorship deal is costing Amazon around £8m. Whether that’s money well spent remains to be seen, but if it increases your sales on Amazon it’ll have done it’s job.
For those that haven’t seen it here’s the trailer:

Hence Downton Abbey not being available on Netflix
Well, at least there won’t be any on-screen product placement. I suppose they could ask the servants to “Kindle the Fire” during each show.
