Possible delays in shipments from China

No primary category set

We’ve heard from Tamebay reader Julius that he has several shipments stuck in a log jam at Hong Kong. Many Chinese shipments will go through Hong Kong on their way around the world and apparently customs there are running slowly.

We’ve heard several reasons for this, a recent jewelry smuggling ring was uncovered and more recently confiscation of 2 tons of counterfeit currency. This apparently led to additional customs checks which are delaying shipments.

There are also stories of Apple reserving large amounts of air freight to ship the latest iPhone models in the run up to Christmas. This means that if your supplier tries to avoid customs issues in the ports, they may simply run into further troubles trying to ship your stock by air.

If you have any additional information or if your shipments have been delayed please share anything you know in comments below. Additionally it goes without saying if you still have orders to be shipped for the Christmas selling season it makes sense to pull them forward as early as possible to ensure you get your stock in time.

  1. If the UK can’t get goods from China, Britain’s festive season will be like that episode from The Good Life when Margo Leadbetter has trouble with her Harrods delivery and says – “Christmas hasn’t arrived this year!”

  2. ,
With a 30-45 days shipping/custom clearance time(inc’ this end), if it isn’t ready to ship now we would be cancelling it.

  3. Lets look on the bright side. There is an alternative to a plastic Chinese made Christmas. That is a more traditional Christmas where presents are Books rather than plastic. Now it just so happens that I have most of the Books already in stock for this Christmas(there are a few exceptions that are yet to be published). So Think Book for Christmas 2014.

  4. .
99p stores have all their Christmas stuff out on sale today…..just a few months to go then!!

Seems they forgot Halloween, Guy Fawkes, not to mention Eid, etc’

  5. Customs my foot! That is nonsense! Hong Kong is having massive pro democracy demonstrations and the roads are blocked etc. Just late last week they allowed some of the Government workers to enter their buildings. It’s just Propaganda.
