eBay Promote Your Listings trial coming to UK

No primary category set

eBay Promoted ListingsWe’ve just heard that eBay UK will be starting a trial in the UK for Promote your listings. eBay say that “Promote your listings is a new way for a seller to showcase their items to interested buyers to help boost sales“.

Whilst we expect this to be similar to the beta trial that the US are running, there may be some differences, plus of course depending on how the trial works out there’s no guarantee it might significantly change before being eventually rolled out.

eBay Promoted Listings aims to let sellers to have their listings displayed “beyond search results” giving “the chance for more buyers to see your items in new places on eBay”. It’s reminiscent of eBay’s previous pay per click programs such as Adcommerce (2008-2010/11) and a previous Keyword program (2003-2006).

The UK trial is to be by invitation only and will run until the end of the year. It’s free and invited sellers will be asked to register their interest to take part in the trial. If you get an invite we’d suggest you snap it up, if it doesn’t work it’s no great loss but if it does work for you then there’s extra sales to be had before Christmas.

  1. Just had the email invitation from Ebay today:

    PROMOTE YOUR LISTINGS
Promote your listings is a new way to showcase your items to buyers and help boost sales. When you set up a campaign using Promote your listings, you’ll be able to select listings you want to highlight on key eBay pages, in addition to search results.

You’ll also have access to a report dashboard to see which listings are performing well and which ones you might want to review – so you can adjust your campaign quickly and easily.

A chance to get your items in front of more buyers
No cost to participants in the trial
Have an opportunity to provide feedback on a brand new eBay service

Be one of the first to take advantage of this exclusive trial and sign up today.

  2. Have looked at it now.

Although free, you get a notional budget to promote your items. If you exceed this “free” budget, you will get charged for the extra.

So, is this the brave new world on Ebay, then?

Pay extra to get promoted, or lose out?

I started on Ebay back in 2003 and it was straightforward then.

Seems that Ebay are constantly trying to get sellers to pay for what they should be getting for their hefty fees, i.e., visibility so customers can buy your items.

The international thing is a complete joke, as well. Constantly trying to get sellers to pay for what should be a transparent global Ebay market.

    Except that it isn’t.

Moved successfully to a new site today and have already sold more items in 2 hours than the whole day yesterday on Ebay.

    Good luck everybody!

  3. Hardly a new innovation, anyone remember “Home Page Featured”. I’m showing my age now. 🙂

It’s been tried before in other similar ways and failed, can’t see what the big difference is going to be this time.

  4. It’s another eBay scam.

Total listing visibility is a zero-sum game. For every listing that gets boosted, another must be less visible.

Best Match is eBay’s view of what the “correct” ordering of results should be, so paying can only distort Best Match, and unfairly demote perfectly good sellers who don’t feel minded to hand over even more money to the greedy organisation that eBay has become.

  5. Deja vu @ ebay

Of course all the new sellers won’t remember this from before .

Ebay trying to be Google again it won’t work ,

Its fun to watch though .

  6. Don’t you just love it when eBay want to ‘double-dip’ into your ever lower margins.
Not content at charging fees for invisible listings and a broken search facility they add insult to injury by asking you to pay even more money so you do actually become visible to potential buyers.
You simply could not make this up!
