Interview with UK eBay Boss Tanya Lawler

No primary category set

Here’s a bit of coffee time reading, if you haven’t seen it already. eBay head honcho Tanya Lawler has given an interview to the Mail on Sunday.

Sadly, there are no real revelations pr indeed insights in the piece but it’s worth reading just to reconfirm where eBay UK’s priorities lie at the moment. Think mobile. Think Click and Collect. Think retailers.

She says: “In the UK a lot of people have very busy lives so convenience is a huge part of what makes a customer satisfied. Just those simple things – doing what you say you are going to do for a customer, getting things to them when it suits them, offering good value products. A lot of what we are focusing on is making it easy to access the site through a device that suits you and delivering products at your convenience.”

I’d like to add a personal note to this piece but I can’t. Despite being in post for over a year neither Chris nor I have had the opportunity to interview Tanya ourselves. Which is a bit of a shame.

  1. I agree people are very busy these days and want to do online shopping on the go. An issue I have recently come across which I cannot wait until 22nd Oct meeting before offloading this, is with the mobile app or m.ebay.co.uk is that NON premium sellers are being shown as premium sellers within their seller info and legal sections on their listings. For several months, I have been completely gobsmacked at how non premium sellers who have been ranked very high on all search areas in the same areas as myself (a Premium seller). Keywords, pictures, new listings etc etc have been tried to see if there are any differences. None. I can’t understand it. However, after seeing the app through the m.ebay.co.uk today using a Samsung SIII and using google search for m.ebay.co.uk and not the ready built in Ebay app on my phone and finding non premium sellers with the title of premium within their listings on the ‘seller info’ section, this has lead me to believe a possible glitch in the mobile app which could be placing the non premium sellers above most premiums.

Ebay have been notified and I am hoping that this can be taken seriously and found to be the case, otherwise the Cassini and all it’s stipulations to adhere to be placed in a great position on Best Match will still be a mystery to me, after continuously trying them all.
