According to reports in US media, Amazon will be opening a physical bricks and mortar outlet in New York City in the run up to the Christmas peak selling period.
The Manhattan-based shop would essentially function as a “mini-warehouse” for same-day delivery in New York enabling product returns and the collection of online orders. Amazon has declined to confirm whether the reports are accurate but the rumoured location is in close proximity to the Empire State Building.
One aspect of the plan is said to be for tourists visiting the Big Apple during the peak shopping period, offering them a place to pick up products and also browse the range of offering on Amazon.
Amazon has proved more experimental with offering different ways for shoppers to buy and this sounds like an interesting, if expensive and unscalable, new horizon.
