The staggering scale of Amazon

No primary category set

Buzzfeed have posted a photo story that has quite a few pictures from Tuesday from inside Amazon’s warehouse and fulfilment centre in Peterborough. And it’s hard not to be struck by the size and scale of their operation.

You can find the article and the amazing images here.

It says that this week will be Amazon’s busiest week of the year and four million items are expected to be ordered. Cyber Monday will be the busiest day. In the same period last year, 4.1 million items were ordered at a rate of around 47 items per second and a lorry left laden with parcels every 1 minute 33 seconds. I imagine those volumes will be greater this year.

And to think this is just one of eight Amazon hubs. It really puts the scale of Amazon into perspective.
