According to research conducted by BT Business, roughly 86% of British small businesses are utilising the cloud in some way as part of their operations.

In association with British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), the research shows that cloud technology is chiefly being used by staff working remotely and on the move.

The research says that 86% of businesses have at least one member of staff working away from the office on a regular basis. For 47% that’s once a week. 28% have a remote worker on the team every day.

Danny Longbottom of BT Business says: “Cloud has been a ‘buzzword’ for a couple of years now, but for our customers it’s a reality – and that is highlighted by our research. It can mean different things to different businesses – from email access and data storage, through to managed telephone services – but it is helping businesses work more effectively, as well as more flexibly.”

Adam Marshall from the BCC notes: “Flexible and remote working are crucial for companies across Britain, and cloud-based files and applications make this possible. Businesses are working in new and different ways, but easy access to information and communication tools are absolutely essential. Everything suggests that businesses dependence on the cloud is growing, and will continue to increase in future.”
