eBay and PayPal to accept BitCoin via Braintree

No primary category set

In their most recent SEC filing relating to how eBay and PayPal will operate when they split up in the second half of this year is an interesting detail: eBay and PayPal will soon allow payment to be made and taken using the controversial crypto-currency BitCoin.

The payments will be processed using eBay Inc. owned company Braintree which was acquired by PayPal for $800m in 2013. The service will be available to anyone with a standard PayPal account. Although, there are few details on how it might actually work, when it will come into action or how it will be kept safe. Upon the split, Braintree will become part of what is being termed PayPal Holdings.

eBay say of the split: “As two distinct publicly traded corporations, eBay and PayPal will be better positioned to capitalize on significant growth opportunities and focus their resources on their respective businesses and strategic priorities.”

  1. Should be Bitcon not Bitcoin.

Bet sellers won’t get the option to refuse it either.

    Strategic priorities = fleecing sellers
