You can already pay for your Uber ride by PayPal in the UK, United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands.
And now if you want to take a ride with Uber, you can pay with PayPal in Canada, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland too. China looks set to be the next great Uber market and, all told, you can catch a ride with Uber in 300 cities across the globe. It may not be popular with trad cabbies and some regulators, but it’s here to stay.
And without getting into a debate about Uber (which is controversial for many), this is exactly the sort of deal that PayPal should be expanding after the eBay/PayPal divorce. PayPal’s future will be in enabling app based real world commerce.
Maybe it should also reconsider its stance on pornography and gambling online too?
