eBay pilots Argos drop off service in Portsmouth, Southampton, Crawley and Nottingham

As we reported before, eBay is trialling an extension of their Click & Collect partnership with Argos by offering a drop off service too where Argos take the item and it’s sent directly to the recipient’s door.

Currently this is a small trial involving 10 Argos branches in Crawley, Southampton, Portsmouth and Nottingham. The eBay drop off page can be found here.

Crucially, we now know the costs that eBay and Argos have in mind for this service. The fee table from the Drop Off page is reproduced below.

Tanya Lawler, UK Vice President, eBay said: “We’re leading the way in giving people convenience when they shop online, so it makes perfect sense to extend this for when they sell online too.

When we launched ‘Click & Collect at Argos’ we shook up the industry by allowing smaller sellers and their customers to take advantage of extra convenience and efficiency. Now, by expanding our partnership, we’re using our expertise to make life easier – and selling smoother – for individuals too.”

It seems that the one key competitive measure that eBay could offer is missing. It would be ideal that when a parcel dropped off at Argos was accepted that an item not received and related defects could not applied. After all, eBay would know that the seller had put the parcel into the system. This seems like an oversight.

How does it look to you? Is this a service you would use?

  1. Am I missing something?

Why drop it off at argos to send it on , just use a courier or royalmail door to door?

  2. Ahh eureka!
Its like a my hermes or connect plus only less conveniant argos stores are rarely in corner shops and newsagents or local post offices

  3. Howdy Dan,

Nice idea, but as Tinker has mentioned, kinda pointless.

The question we must all be thinking (well at least me!), when will Argos be carrying 3rd party eBay sellers stock so eBay can compete with Amazon Prime?

    Matt

  4. I remember when we were 1st told about click & collect at Argos and many people, including me, asked why would customers want this, but we do not go a day without sending items to an Argos address.

However this is a service for sellers, and the overriding issue will be price and a quick glance at the prices do not make it appealing to sellers that have RM accounts, but may work for the odd parcel.
