Amazon Restaurants launched in Seattle area

Prime Now RestaurantsWith Amazon Restaurants Prime Now customers in Seattle can now get food delivered from local restaurants.

Using the Prime Now mobile app, Seattle customers can view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders and track the status of their delivery in real time. Once an order is placed, Amazon delivery drivers pick up and deliver the food within an hour or less.

Food delivery is big business with many firms encouraging online booking rather than telephone orders. Companies such as Deliveroo, Hungry House and Just Eat are all vying for UK consumers business and want you to use their websites to order or preferably download their food apps. My problem with all take away delivery apps is lack of choice, outside major cities hardly any restaurants are signed up to their services.

Large chains such as pizza delivery companies don’t have the problem of coverage, the main issue with these apps is that you can only order one type of food and you don’t want pizza every time you want a takeaway limiting the appeal of their apps. According to ShoppingLabs the UK’s three most popular takeaways are Indian, Fish & Chips and Chinese, but the wider the selection the more likely it is consumers will happily use the app.

When Amazon Restaurants come to the UK they’ll have three big advantages – they already have a pool of customers who already use the Amazon apps, they have hardware running Amazon’s own version of Android to which then can push the Prime Now app and possibly most important of all they already have your payment details stored.

Amazon say that restaurant delivery on Prime Now offers customers transparent pricing—there are no menu markups or hidden service fees, and delivery on all orders is free for a limited time. Customers pay using the information already stored in their Amazon account and orders are backed by Amazon’s award-winning customer service.

Gus Lopez, general manager, Amazon Restaurants added that “For many of these restaurants, this is the first time they are offering delivery, and we are delighted they have chosen to work with us”.
