At eBay’s 20th birthday celebrations in San Jose, Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay was the surprise guest.
Pierre told many stories from eBay’s early years, from generating the first code in his apartment to when buyers mailed cheques directly to eBay to process payments. It’s hard to imagine the early eBay in the days when you had to host your own server just to insert pictures in your eBay listings.
For anyone who’s business includes trading on eBay it’s an interesting discussion and well worth spending half an hour to view. At the end you’ll get to meet Mark Fraser, the guy who purchased the first item on eBay – the famous broken laser pointer. He wasn’t as the story goes a “collector” of broken laser pointers, he just had a particular use for it. Watch the video to see where the laser pointer ended up!

TL:DW; guy who created eBay marvels at the utter mess and den of thieves it has become, and then laughs for 20 straight minutes.
not really a “surprise” guest really is it?
